Though this song, performed by Soundgarden, was decribed to me as DIRGE when I sent the lyrics to a friend, I love the song. Chris Cornell's voice cuts right through the shit. It's a song of sadness, redemption, and regret.
Burden In My Hand Written by Chris Cornell
Follow me into the desert As thirsty as you are Crack a smile and cut your mouth And drown in alcohol 'cause down below the truth is lying Beneath the riverbed So quench yourself and drink the water That flows below her head
Oh no there she goes Out in the sunshine the sun is mine The sun is mine
I shot my love today would you cry for me I lost my head again would you lie for me I left her in the sand just a burden in my hand I lost my head again would you cry for me
Close your eyes and bow your head I need a little sympathy 'cause fear is strong and love’s for everyone Who isn’t me So kill your health and kill yourself And kill everything you love And if you live you can fall to pieces And suffer with my ghost
Oh no there she goes Out in the sunshine the sun is mine The sun is mine
I shot my love today would you cry for me I lost my head again would you lie for me I left her in the sand just a burden in my hand I lost my head again would you cry for me
Just a burden in my hand Just an anchor on my heart Just a tumor in my head And I’m in the dark
So follow me into the desert As desperate as you are Where the moon is glued to a picture of heaven And all the little pigs have god
Oh no there she goes Out in the sunshine the sun is mine
I shot my love today would you cry for me I lost my head again would you lie for me I left her in the sand just a burden in my hand I lost my head again would you cry for me Would You cry for me

Burden In My Hand

Loz spoke of the definition of this word in a blog entry late last year. I was just reading up on this at the Yoga Journal (thank you, Gigglesbee) and wanted to share the meanging of this gesture of respect.

From http://www.yogajournal.com/newtoyoga/822_1.cfm; reply by Aadil Palkhivala.
The gesture Namasté represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowlegement of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama" means bow, "as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namasté literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."
To perform Namasté, we place the hangs together at the heart chakra, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especially deep form of respect. Although in the West the word "Namasté" is usually spoken in conjuction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namasté, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing.
We bring the hands together at the heart chakra to increase the glow of Divine love. Bowing the head and closing the eyes helps the mind surrender to the Divine in the heart. One can do namaste to oneself as a meditiation technique to go deeper inside the heart chakra; when done with someone else, it is also a beautiful, albeit quick, meditation.
For a teacher and student, Namasté allows two individuals to come together energetically to a place of connection and timelessness, free from the bonds of ego-connection. If it is done with a deep feeling in the heart and with the mind surrendered, a deep union of spirits can blossom.

I wonder if Aadil realized how sexy that sounded when he wrote it?
But seriously, I think that just the principle behind approaching, greeting and treating a person with this level of respect goes a long way in healing wounds and understanding. Even if you can't be with that person, you can think of them in the spirit of Namasté. How glad I am that I read this.

I didn't forget the moon either
Tuesday night, it was full. Small but full, sitting at about 45 degrees up in the Eastern sky about 7.30p. The stars were around but the air was full of humidity and a thin layer of clouds was settling in from the southeast, so they weren't bright and twinkly as usual. But the moon was so well lit by the already-set sun, I could see the gigantic craters clearly. This bodes well, because it means that I won't need a new prescription when I finally make it to the eye doctor for that appointment I've put off for the past year and a half (hopefully). Tonight, there were too many clouds to see anything. But I feel much better.

Just seeing now on many news sources that Johnny Carson died at age 79 of emphysema. He is nephew told the AP he died in his sleep, his family around him. :-(
Great obituaries have been posted on most news outlets. This is a good one, from the Washingtonpost.com.
